Food Security - Aya Farms

Growing Food. Growing Knowledge. Growing Community.

Aya Farms is a community-centered agricultural initiative committed to cultivating a sustainable and resilient local food system in Metro Atlanta. Located in South DeKalb—an area with a critical need for food security—Aya Farms provides fresh, organically grown produce while serving as a hands-on learning space for sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment.

Through education, collaboration, and responsible farming practices, Aya Farms works to ensure that healthy food is accessible, local agriculture is viable, and families are equipped with the tools to grow food and economic opportunity—even with limited land.

Our Mission

Aya Farms cultivates sustainable agriculture while alleviating food insecurity through fresh, locally grown produce, community donations, and education. We empower individuals of all ages with the knowledge and skills to grow their own food, make healthy choices, and care for the environment through hands-on learning and community engagement.

Our Vision

Aya Farms envisions becoming a hub for sustainable agriculture in Metro Atlanta—modeling community-driven food systems and collaborative agro-economic success. Our goal is to inspire a thriving, self-sustaining community where healthy food is accessible to all, local farming is economically viable, and future generations are empowered to grow a more sustainable world.

How We Grow

Aya Farms prioritizes sustainable, organic, and eco-friendly growing practices, including:

  • Crop rotation and mixed cropping to improve soil health and food security
  • Composting and cover crops to enrich soil and prevent erosion
  • Organic pest management using beneficial insects and neem oil
  • Rainwater harvesting and water conservation practices
  • Transitioning to raised-bed and vertical farming to maximize yield in limited space
  • Avoidance of synthetic chemicals to ensure healthy, organic produce

We are actively working to expand sustainability infrastructure, including drip irrigation systems to further reduce water usage.

What We Grow

Aya Farms produces a diverse range of fresh fruits and vegetables, including collard greens, mustard greens, kale, broccoli, cabbage, ginger, garlic, green onions, carrots, peppers (sweet and hot), cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, squash, peas, and watermelon.

Community & Partnerships

Historically maintained by family and friends, Aya Farms is supported by dedicated farmers, volunteers, and community partners. As the farm grows, our goal is to expand capacity and create paid roles to support long-term sustainability.

We collaborate with several Metro Atlanta farms and agricultural organizations, including Habesha, Shamba, Iremide Farms, Nature’s Candy Farms, Gangsters to Growers, and Atlanta Harvest—working collectively to strengthen the local food ecosystem.

How Aya Farms Serves Others

Aya Farms serves the Metro Atlanta community by:

  • Providing fresh, affordable, locally grown produce
  • Donating food to support families facing food insecurity
  • Offering workshops on gardening, sustainability, and nutrition
  • Creating volunteer opportunities that foster connection and shared learning
  • Supporting the local economy through job creation and affordable food access
  • Demonstrating how families can generate income-producing yields with limited land.
